Dale Gunderson spent eleven years on the floor of a Wisconsin Rapids paper mill, where a careless lift on a two-ton roll didn’t just risk a hurt back — it could shut down a shift’s entire production line. That kind of consequence teaches you to slow down at exactly the moment everyone else is tempted to rush.
Working alongside him for most of those years was Vernon Bilodeau, and the two noticed the same pattern outside the mill gates: moving crews around Central Wisconsin either rushed a job and dinged a doorframe, or moved so cautiously that a simple two-bedroom stretched into an all-day affair. Neither man figured that was actually a tradeoff worth accepting.

Dale and Vernon bought their first truck outright instead of renting one job by job, put movers on payroll instead of calling around for day labor, and set one rule that hasn’t moved since: every customer gets a written number before a single box is taped shut. Both still ride along on the tougher jobs, and either one answers a Saturday call personally.
